Some companies program their own custom configurator from scratch or use some of the configurator modules that often comes with some of the major ERP system providers. In general, we do not recommend either of the two options.
Instead, we recommend using a commercial configurator software vendor. There is a large number of different commercial suppliers of configuration software, who have specialized in the discipline of finding the right solution as quickly as possible.
Worm Development is familiar with different vendors and their strengths and weaknesses. We help companies specify and choose the right system. We typically initiate a process where we first clarify the needs and expectations to the system together with the client and then specify a demo version of the configurator, which a number of invited contractors are invited to respond to.
This process is called a Request for Proposal and that’s one way to ensure that the customer gets an impartial presentation of different vendors in order to choose the best software provider.
Many software vendors will gladly help you clarify your needs and specify the configurator. However, we do not believe that this job should be put in the hands of the software vendors, since their goal is to sell software licenses and consultancy resources.
Worm Development is independent of configurator vendors and can provide a broader and more impartial advice. Our experience with complexity management and platform based product development is a perfect match in order to make your company and your product range ready for a configuration system.
